About Fair Tech Initiative
Who we are
Fair Tech Initiative CIC was founded by a group of technology professionals with decades of combined experience across development, testing, analytics, operations, and strategy. We’ve seen how transformative access to technology can be — and how many people are excluded simply because they lack a working device or the confidence to use one.
We created Fair Tech Initiative to change that. Our mission is simple: expand digital opportunity while promoting fairness, accessibility, and sustainability in the way technology is used.
What we do
Digital skills that build confidence and open doors.
Many of the people we support haven’t had regular access to a computer, or have only ever used a smartphone. We provide friendly, practical training that helps people build the skills they need for education, employment, and everyday life — including email, online safety, job applications, and accessing essential services.
Pathways into technology.
For those who want to go further, we’re developing training pathways that introduce the fundamentals of IT support, software development, and other technology roles. Our aim is to help people build confidence, independence, and long‑term opportunity.
Refurbishing devices and reducing e‑waste.
We take unwanted, broken, and end‑of‑life IT equipment, repair and refurbish what we can, and responsibly recycle what we can’t. Refurbished devices are made available to low‑income households for a token contribution or free of charge, ensuring cost is never a barrier to opportunity.
This circular approach reduces waste, supports sustainability, and gives technology a meaningful second life.
LeanForge: practical agility for real‑world challenges
Not all of our work is technical. Our LeanForge programme brings practical, jargon‑free, real‑world agility to organisations outside traditional IT environments — places where uncertainty slows progress or where leaders hesitate to commit without a perfectly defined end state.
LeanForge helps teams move forward with clarity, adaptability, and momentum, even when the path ahead isn’t fully mapped out. It’s a practical, accessible approach to getting things done in complex environments, and is just as well suited to public- and third-sector environments as it is private sector.
LeanForge also forms part of Fair Tech Initiative’s long‑term sustainability model. As a revenue‑generating training programme, it supports the CIC’s mission while giving organisations a grounded, real‑world way to improve how they work.
Our values
Accessibility — Everyone deserves the tools and skills to participate fully in modern life.
Sustainability — Reducing e‑waste is essential for both environmental and social impact.
Dignity — Support should empower people, not make them feel judged or dependent.
Practicality — We focus on what works, not what looks good on paper.
Community — We collaborate with organisations, businesses, and individuals who share our vision.
